While driving my 79 home from work today, i noticed at stop lights a noise while sitting in gear idling, and it seemed to go away once i got up to decent speed/or the exhaust/wind was too noisy to notice. I have a 350 bored .30 mild cam and an edelbrock EPS intake and 650 carb. If it is in park, it does not do it, or atleast its not constant.
Here are two videos. The oil pressure, temp, everything looks like its in its normal range. It does seem to be coming more from below than the top of the engine, and it doesnt seem to correspond with the idle of the engine itself, as in its not in the same rythem
Time for you to get a stethoscope and try to find where the noise is coming from....or put a hose near your ear. You were moving so much in the video from the top that I was trying to see if I was seeing your water pump bearing having play in it...Check that out.
It also sounds like a possible crack in a crankshaft pulley or it being loose.
I would also remove the belt when you know the noise is there and see if it goes away. That would let you know that you are not having any internal engine issues or a problem a the flywheel.

I will take a look at these above and report back. Thanks for the help!

So it is coming from the rear of the engine/front of transmission. It only appears to happen when it is in grear at first. Its worse in reverse than forward, and gets progressively worse as the car gets hot but it happens in both reverse and forward. It shifts very hard into reverse but not as bad in forward, but not as it probably should.
My 3 guesses are 1. A loose bolt in the dust cover 2. Broken flex plate (cracked between the big holes) or 3. Your crank beating the heck out of your oil pump pickup that fell out
It can possibly also be the spring for your starter Bendix spring is weak and allowing it to move and tap on the flexplate/flywheel.
DO NOT let noises fool you...especially if you are just using your ear and not a special stethoscope that can detect noises when you place the probe on a part.......they can telegraph and make you THINK it is one place an actually be another.
Make sure you try removing your belts when the noise is there and crank it and see...before you start getting crazy on it. The ONLY reason I am writing this...is because I have had noises that made me go crazy and UNTIL I listened to some of the mechanics I know who told me to do it...and I fought with them saying that they were wrong and the noise is not there...when I did it..I HAD to eat crow. Just saying.

So i checked the bolts. 2/3 bolts holding the flexplate to the torque converter were loose and partially backed out. I put locktite on them and tightened them back up. All the bolts holding the flexplate to the crank were all tight. I did not see any damage to the flexplate, cracks or broken teeth, etc. So I think i may have lucked out. Thanks for the suggestions and the help to everyone, I really appreciate it.
