Welcome to the Corvette Forum

You say you have a '73 Excalibur, but does that mean you are using '73 Corvette components? What steering column are you using? Is it from a '73 Corvette?

If it is a '73 Corvette column, the ignition switch is mounted to the top of the lower column tube (just above where your foot might rest), and may be slightly out of adjustment.

I picture of the column you're using (even the car in general), might be helpful to let us orient ourselves to what you are working with.

Good luck... GUSTO

That is what I was going to write...BECAUSE...the outer small terminal stud on the solenoid can be having a power wire touching it...thus keeping the ignition still powered up...thus the ignition key will do nothing to stop the engine from running.

CHECK your connections at the starter solenoid...ESPECIALLY IF this engine still has a points distributor...WHICH IT SHOULD if it is still all factory correct for a 1973 Corvette as you stated.

Hi , the car was working just fine then this problem started ,i've taken the ignition switch on the column off ,for cleaning ,because the car was parked for few years ,when i've reinstalled wouldn't start ,so i've changed the position a litle and started just fine .
I've ordered a new switch because i believe the one i have is the original one .
Is there a diagram or instrucction s in how to install it????
By the way, the distributor has rotor instead of points
Thanks.

This is one of the papers that Jim Shea has posted that illustrates pretty well how to install the new switch.
Remove and Install Ignition and Dimmer Switch
http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/wp-co...trpage2pdf.pdf

The only real challenge after engaging the linkage between the Ignition Switch and the Switch Rack and Actuator Assy, is getting the ignition switch synchronized with the Key. You do this after attaching the switch to the column mast and then adjusting the ignition switch up and down the column as necessary to sync them together. It can be a bit tedious, but is not too difficult.

The switch is attached to the mast with three small sheet metal screws, so be careful not to over tighten them or you will strip the mast and they will not hold the ignition switch securely.

Good luck... GUSTO
