upon removing the engine i found that my speedo cable has been lying on my exhaust and burned thru the cable housing...
how hard is it to replace (get at) on the speedo end?
I have never tried to replace the speedo cable on my 80' but I think that it might be a little time consuming... I once replaced the speedo cable on my 69 (sold) and it was a 10 minute job.. However - on later C3's - it's a pain to access the speedo cable where it mounts on the speedo...
:seeya Actually,it itsn't too bad. The speedo end releases pretty easy, once you get your fingers on it. Just push in on the realease clip and it pops out. Pay attention to how the old cable is routed around the clutch/brake pedals. I didn't and I ended up having to route it 3 times before I got it right :yesnod: On the C3 scale of necessary manual dexterityand flexability, I'd rate this :smash: :smash: :smash: ....
One :smash: being the easiest
Five :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: being the hardest :D :seeya
On the 77, the speedo cable is a two piece unit because of the cruise control. The lower end, from the transmission to the transducer, is what is near the exhaust and is an easy replace. Do you have a two piece cable as well?
It's easy. If you pull the lower heat/vent duct from under the dash you can feel up behind the gauges, feel for the clip, press it and have someone pull the cable in the engine compartment. Next, undo it at the tranny and it comes out. A 10min. job.
