I've searched and have found very little information with regard to what I'd like to achieve. I'd like to upgrade my stock points distributor to electronic but want to keep the stock cable-driven tach. Are there any options? Is there a kit available to upgrade the stock cable distributor guts to non-points? Thanks!
You might look into a Pertronix ignition setup. It is an electronic ignition module that installs in place of your points in your stock distributor so you retain everything including the stock shielding. It is inexpensive and pretty reliable. I have used them for a number of years now with no problems.
Installed my Breakerless SE Ignition, set the timing, and back on the road in under 30 minutes. it doesn't get any easier then that. Been running the system for 5 years now without a problem.

With the Breakerless Ignition do you bypass the resistor wire for a full 12 volts to the coil like a Pertronix installation or do you just use the standard resistor wire setup to supply the coil?

Yes, it uses the ballast wire. No wiring changes.
no additional wires protrude from the distributor, only the original points wire.
You can search online and download the Breakerless SE installation instructions. But basically you remove the points and bolt an electronic module In there place using the same wires and screws. Then you screw a halo to the bottom of your rotor, check your timing and you are done. Easy as can be.
A side benefit is you can just as easily switch back to points if you wanted for some strange reason. I know some guys just like to go old school and run points.
