Default Coilover Recomendations.

79 with Borgeson PS. No track just a DD. I want coilovers to level my ride height, lower my front and add more pos caster that Borgeson recommends. I already have Global West upper arms ready to install that should add caster.

My coilover questions are....

1. What coilovers do you recommend/stay away from.
2. Do I need doubles or will singles be fine for a DD
3. Will they work with factory lower arms or must I upgrade them also?

I know GW makes extended travel lower arms that are supposed to work better if you lowering the front. Looking for at least 1" lower than factory.

Thanks

I've got RideTech Level II on my '66 ===> Click Here

C2 & C3 uses same system.

Very adjustable - height & ride

My opinion - best riding C2/C3 I have ever owned.
Others my have different opinion but the ten (10) I have owned this is the best.
Stock, F41, VBP mono front/rear -- SB, BB, LS3 - many combinations but RideTech II best

They have various options on coil-over parts/systems.

George

Front end Ridetech with their sway bar.

Rear end Ridetech ready for the body and tires

Another vote for Ridetech

I bought front QA-1 dual adjust through summit racing. the original QA-1 springs are too weak. So from Speed direct they sell springs in 50# increments.

If had 460# before and liked them get something near that from speed direct. If you had 550# get them. I bought 600, 650, & 700 I like the 650 for street driving with my lightened front end

Rear I have a custom 520# mono from VB&P with QA-1 dual adjust shocks.

IMO I was not happy with the choices of my Koni shocks and took them right back off. The QA-1 dual adjusts are so nice. I can run my car around and get under and add a little compression or rebound in a parking lot and see if i liked the changes with just few clicks on each wheel

Adjustability is soooooooo nice!

I'd have to dig through the QA-1 sight and then even possibly call QA-1 and get the part numbers. Then you call summit racing with the numbers and they have the cross reference to their numbers. It is cheaper than lots of vendors. Maybe speed direct knows the part number on the front because they sold me the shorter smaller diameter springs with the collar to adapt them to my fronts. speed directs springs used to be $79.95 a pair is why I bought three different sets.

I have big brakes and sticky front tires. I had the stockish one inch shorter VB&P 550 for many years and just had to much front end dive when I put on the brakes. so I first installed the 600# speed direct and it was the same thing. So I installed the 700# for lapping days and was happy. The 650# are for street cruising

I've had the fronts from the mid 2000's and the rears maybe 5-8 years.

Sorry that i couldn't help more!

I have the Speed Direct that uses the OEM lower arm with VBP uppers.

I do like the dual adjustable so I can tailor the ride.

I used a VBP reinforcement puck under the shock to spread the load.

For the rear I used their other kit. If the Ridetech was out at the time I would have saved up for that.

I just purchased front single adjustable semi coil overs and tubular a arms and rear single adjustable coil overs with 2" offset TA's from Van Steele. Very nice. I don't have them installed yet.

QA1 single adjustable with the VB&P block like dawson has. I used the 450 spring and it rides nice but has my car sitting higher than I want with them adjusted all the way down. I've put about 500 miles on them and they have settled but not to my liking.

I'm worried about this. Global West sells lower arms they call extended travel arms. The shock sits lower in tha arm than a normal lower arm. I feel like this is the way to go if you want to drop the front end. I've also decided to go with the 500 Viking double coilovers they recommend.

Thanks to all that replied

how low are you trying to set it?

Hard to put a number on it because I dont have a good idea of stock height. When I got the car the front springs were shot. Someone used spacers to raise the front. I installed a set of springs from summit (not OEM) and had to cut them to lower it till I was good with the stance. I'm running 235/60/15s on the front and I would like it low as possible without anything rubbing. A nice low aggressive stance.
