How to hook up a Mini-Starter
Hey!
Stock I have 3 cables. Battery, igniton and Relay. The new Mini-Starter only need Battery and Igniton.
Now the question: where to hook up the "relay-cable"?
Thanks, Günther

Do you still have points? If so, you need a diode to hook it up. If you don't, tape it off.

Does your distributor have points still?
The relay wire is to bypass the resistor wire during start up.

Why are you feeling old?
Again, are you sure I don´t neet the relay-cable? I only have the "hall-effect" from Pertronix, not the whole igniton system.
This is what I have:

Can somebody explain me how to do with the diode?
Thanks, Günther

Do you still use the ballast resistor wire in your coil C+ voltage supply line?

Because points were really common back in the 60/70's
If your using a pertronix you should have added a 12V wire to it. In that case you don't need the R wire to start the car.
If you look at step 4 on both pages here they explain the diode.

The 12V of the pertronix wire is connected to the igniton coil + terminal. Is that wrong hooked up?

And 80's... I am not that old.
But, yes if you had a car in the 70's, 80's or earlier, it almost definitely had points. I am thinking there may not have been a car made in the 60's or before that did not have points, but I can't confirm that at the moment.

Adding this, if this is what you had and your new starter doesn't have an R just add the diode.

Yes, the picture is right. Can you tell me the thing with the diode? What is the exact name of the diode, so I can buy it?
As I know, the diode is then connected from the big plus terminal of the new mini-starter to the wire, where it was connected at the "R" terminal at stock application. Is that correct?

Gunther. Forget the "R" wire. You need to operate the Pertronix from a full 12volt keyed on source. Tape off the ballast wire, and the "R" wire, and use a #14 wire from the "IGN" fuse to the coil + terminal.
This is the way it's supposed to be wired up.
