Holley Sniper system..dumb it down for me
Only system thats kind of caught my eye appears simple
Its not a vette (a body) same electronics though
Im assuming one would have to buy a tank/pump setup what about the electronics how involved are they? Can you have the brain turn the fan on?
Are they truly self learning?? I am a die hard double pumper guy but if the quality of gas continues to suck I may consider this come fall when things turn aorund.
What about ignition..i have a summit wanna be msd (crap..sorry summit) assuming that would be history. Suggestions? want something simple and reliable but do need a strong spark, have 82 degrees overlap.
Whats the REAL cost assuming I did most the work myself?
2, 3, 6?
want to keep my rowdy *** cam.

thanks for the link have to do some reading
advertised price sounds good but seems with some systems there are so many little items that make it add up to thousands.
Guesing the base kit would suffice have no clue on what power im making but it sure isnt 650.

I will be following this as I am thinking in the future when the price drops a bit I might go this route. But I love me some big lumpy cam idle on my big block. If you go fuel injection, does that go away?

the ones ive heard it sounds better, more crisp
dont really care about mpg but wouldnt complain if it picked up
as it is now unless im on the hwy its literally $20 for 20 min.
If it could be done for around 2k or less real interested.
Anyone heard of issues or flaws?

on the link that Terry82 has in his reply, under the "support" tab is "FORUM". Holley has forums for their efi systems. If you take the time to read thru, you will find 99% of everything possible question has been ask, answered and done several different ways. I bought a Terminator system w/trans control (4l80/60) after reading thru and finding solid tech support.

I believe the Sniper system is very similar to my Fitech. Can control timing via your current dizzy/ignition (unless it's an all in one hei unit), or can just use it for fuel. I imagine it can control your fan (my Fitech does). Very simple install, need to install and wire coolant temp sensor and o2 sensor, other than that it's just constant power, ignition and ground - though obviously a little more wiring for a fuel pump, and if you want to control timing, fans etc.
My Fitech works great, have done about 10,000 miles with it in the last 6 months, better economy than I had prior and much better at part throttle, idle, low rpm, when cold, that kind of thing. I love it. The only changes I made to mine were leaning out the cruise AFR targets a little to improve economy. It's been totally self learning and works great. The ignition timing is NOT self learning though, you do need to set that yourself, but it's not hard.
From everything I've read the Sniper is very comparable to the Fitech, might learn a bit quicker, slightly more user friendly software, timing map sounds like it wasn't great (at least on early release, don't know if it's improved) out of the box, but easily fixed with the laptop software from what I gather. If I were buying a system now (as opposed to ~15 months ago) then I may well have ordered the Sniper instead of the Fitech. I won't go back to a carb on this car, ever. It's left me looking at my options for converting my other classics to fuel injection too...

No reason you can't do it for less than $2000.
The hard part is the tank and fuel pump so you get a consistent fuel supply. Just using an external pump sucking on the stock pickup will have stumbling on corners or acceleration if the tank is 1/2 full or less. I'd look at some through bulkhead type fittings to go through the tank or sender unit plate and a Holley Hydramat as the cheapest solution. Otherwise, the next step is an in-tank conversion, which could be done yourself for cheap up to $1000+ for some ready to run complete tanks.
Besides figuring out the fuel tank, the kits seem fairly complete so you should be able to install it no problem.

thanks.sounds like the tank thing needs some looking into. Heard about guys having issues on hard acceleration corners etc. If I go EFI i want it perfect. 2k or less sounding real good.

You can do it for less than $2,000.
Walbrofuelpumps.com has some great options that are priced reasonably if you're looking to just retrofit your current gas tank. Give them a call and their tech guy Chris is pretty fantastic and putting together fuel solutions.
If you're putting it in a normal gas tank you definitely want a hydromat-style pickup so you don't have to deal with running the pump dry at 1/4 tank and hard cornering.
I hear nothing but good things about the Holley Sniper, BUT the Holley Terminator can be had via CL for the same price and can grow and provide a lot more capabilities- it can be flash upgrade to the holley HP feature set and support power adders, water/meth injection, dual stage NOS control, etc...

I'm looking to keep it just under $2,000. My plan for my '74 is to buy a fuel injection tank that houses a internal pump from Tanksinc. $275. for the tank, $220. for the pump, $70.00 for a LS Filter Regulator, $35.00 for tank sending unit ,plus any other filters fitting clamps ECT, Ect that will be needed and the Sniper unit for $1,000. and using my existing 3/8 fuel line...Right now Im having to wait to start that project since Holley is having some supply issues..I'm currently using an HEI system that I will try to retain and feel pretty confident I can. . hope that helps

I just installed one on my 38 street rod. I used an in tank pump and it works wonderfully. PM me if you would like any information.
I am a supporter, the thing works as advertised.

No Return from engine. A fellow forum member has this set up. It will be spilling back to tank from the filter/regulator, while maintaining a required 58 psi on the supply side. The sniper has a built in regulator that will need to be capped off. I will personally like this better than having a return line all the way from the engine. I didn't know this was available till he posted it to one of my posts.

I purchased the unit for $1000
New tank, pump and filter from Tanks Inc. $650
Teflon hoses and an fittings were about $200 total.
Fired right up first time, after a little tweaking my idle is right where I want it and the acceleration is crisp and there is no lag.
It does control my electric fans, I am not using it to control timing, running a big cap.
It has been a long time since I had a C3 but I know this would have been a great system on mine.
