It's a cool gadget.
No gimmick as it actually works and serves a function. You could say the Stingray emblem on the 1/4 panel is a marketing gimmick.

The system is amazing. When first searching for a vette, working fiber optics were one of the must haves on the car.
BMW uses f o in their cars today.

I bought a 70 vert last year and all winter I repaired and cleaned this beauty and the fiber optics is one thing I paid attention to , I cleaned all the end and lenses I think it's cool ,

I definitely love the cool factor of the fiber optics on my '69. The only regret I have, is that they don't have monitors for the back-up lights, and those are the most likely to be out on mine (usually a loose connection at the socket).
I have some difficulty in the left rear lens in the console. I think due to the 90 degree bend that particular lens takes, it tends to be much dimmer than the rest. There's actually a 45 degree reflector molded into the lens to direct the light from the incoming optic cable to the lens itself, and it must lose some efficiency in light transmission. Wish that one was bright as the rest - anyone have this issue? or a fix for that condition?

GM actually introduced fiber optics in '67, and they were on a lot of models through the 70's.

My '68 impala had them. not just a vette thing.
