Default BB valve covers

Can anyone with some original Big Block flash chromed valve covers give me an idea on the depth? In other words how much clearance there is for different types of rocker arms?

Thanks in advance!!

Steve

All the covers I have were on the HP BB's and have drippers. Not much extra room with those. I found a set that are taller than the stock covers but look like originals without drippers. They fit perfectly over shaft rockers except the left one wouldn't clear the alternator without a little help. The left one was always really close anyway. And a small dent fixed that.

Aftermarket, taller, no dripers, cleared rocker arms.

Those look like the rockers that I have as well. I bought some aftermarket "original" valve covers and no luck... They don't have enough clearance. How did you make them fit?

I use the Jegs rockers.

They make two styles on covers so if you have power brakes get the slant ones. http://www.yesterdaysmusclecars.com/product_p/n1208.htm

Are you running stock Heads or Aftermarket? I have a set of AFR 3610's (V2) and I'm wondering the same thing, Power Brake Booster clearance too?

Here is mine-- no slant on the left cover, clears the brake booster too.

(sorry I don't have a better picture of the left side)

Any problems with the rocker end tapping up against the valve cover PCV baffle or the vent baffle on the right side?

Honestly, I was concerned about that too. I set both covers on with loose bolts to hold them in place without gaskets and turned the engine over several rotations. Covers never moved. Since then, I've had it running. When I pulled the covers and valve train to re-torque the head bolts I looked for any signs of rubbing. Nothing at all. I had one pushrod that had a shiny spot from an intake bolt. Replaced that pushrod and ground about 1/2 thread off that bolt.

Sounds good. There is not much room there. I had a set of Comp rockers they said would work no problem with stock covers and couldn't figure why I had a small ticking lifter sounding noise. On both sides they just touched the baffle on the way up. I indented the baffle an eighth of an inch to make it work.
Lucky you found that intake bolt.
