Default Ignition wiring / Kill switch problem

While I have the dash apart, I decided to put in a kill switch. I pulled the white connector harness off the top of the steering column. I spliced a switch into the purple wire and reinserted the connector. I heard it click. But now I get nothing when the switch is closed.

Would the lights and accessories that normally go on when the key is in the ON position be affected by this?

I've tried a crude jumper over the switch but it didn't work. Not sure how how many amps needs to be able to go through this wire to engage the starter.

Nevermind. I looked again and apparently there is a black connector right next to it that I had pulled off as well. I hooked that back in and everything is working well now.

I'm doing this blind because I couldn't get the dash all the way out. Can I just say that my least favorite part of the car to work on is the driver side dash?!
