Default L46 Engine help

My buddies and I are pulling the engine on my 70 next month because it needs a ring job.

I have a 1970 L46 (350/350)

Can anyone please recommend the best parts to use for this and where to get them?

Thanks

how do you know what parts you need before you disassemble the engine and know what needs to be machined?
For gaskets get a complete Felpro engine set from whomever has the best deal, summit racing, jegs, o-reilly, etc. Whatever parts you end up needing could be sourced from them also.

What are you planning to do? Just the rings? New Pistons? Heads or keeping the OEM heads? Cam??

Its an L46 350/350..I would keep it as much OEM as possible in my opinion.

18 years ago I had the engine rebuilt/machined, but the guy never rebuilt the carb. 3 different mechanics told me that I had gas washing on the rings and it killed the rings and that is why the engine is smoking so much.

(Carb has since been rebuilt)

I'm just trying to plan out what parts I may need when the time comes.

Better to be informed now than wait until later.

The plan is to stay OEM.

Few thousand tops id think;Stock rebuilds are cheap thankfully, outside of crank and rods wouldnt reuse anything internal. Again, no way to tell 100% til your guy tears it down, inspects and starts taking measurements.

I guess you will have to see what it shows but 18 years ago and how many miles? If not many miles, sounds like much could be reused. If just the rings, can new rings be installed on same pistons with minor cylinder hone? (engine experts here chime in)?

I guess you could reuse a low mileage cam, lifters, pushrods etc if everything was put back exactly in the same place it came out of the engine? ....not sure I would go that route.... or are you going to do what I did with my L-82 (I am not recommending on an L-46 if its OEM, just for ideas or thoughts)?

I had a ring/piston issue so I pulled the motor and completely rebuilt/upgraded the motor but kept much of the L-82 parts/character. I used JE Forged Racing pistons/rings, bored the motor .030 (had to) but did not have the builder deck the block (numbers preservation), put in a Howards roller cam, AFR aluminum cylinder heads, Long tube headers, total compression 10.2:1. New fuel pump, oil pump, clutch kit, harmonic balancer, reconditioned flywheel, etc.

However, I did recondition the L-82 rods, reconditioned the L-82 crank, mildly ported the aluminum L-82 intake, reused the HEI distributor (had been changed previously), reused the L-82 dual snorkel cold air intake etc...engine pretty much looks like an L-82, sounds like one at idle, and runs like an L-82 until you step on the gas hard....my guess (based on comparison to my C6Z06 505 Net HP/acceleration/weight ratio) and my builder's estimate (this guy knows his stuff) is about 425+ Gross HP now.....
