Aluminum wheel shine tricks and ideas needed. Who can rise to the need?
David
David do the wheels have a clearcoat over them or are they raw alum. Any stains or nice shape just need them a little brighter. I have some stuff that I have used since 65. Let me know and I will show you what it is. You can use 1500 wet sand paper and wd40 to get them really clean then use Semi Chrome. made in Germany.

I too- WAS a Simichrome believer. I polished out a Holley carb in the late 70's and had been using it since. And needless to say a fan of some German stuff!!!
Anyway- a few years ago on the Hotrod Power Tour was at the Mother's Booth- and they were giving stuff away for free. So- what the heck -I'll try the Mag and Aluminum Polish.
I gotta say the Mother's leaves a better shine on Aluminum AND stainless steel- Hand's Down!!!
Here's my fabbed up oil pan- I had to go all the way down to 320 to get rid of the scratches-
Steel wool on aluminum? Fragments/particles left behind could leave rust marks once humidity has had it's way. Plus aluminum tends to gall when scrubbed with steel wool which could easily result in fibers of wool being embedded.
Sandpaper or 3M pads to get the scratches out-
Corn starch to remove the 'black' marks when polishing out.
If using a buffer- use different wheel for different compounds- not a good idea to use the same compound on one wheel.
