I'm working on a budget for the mods I want to perform on my '69 coupe. One of the things i want to do when I rebuild the engine is to swap intake manifolds. It's originally a 300 hp car with (i think) a cast iron intake. I have an aluminum intake off a '69 Z28. It's a high rise dual plane affair, and I've heard it's pretty rare. I'd like to use it on my car, but will I have to switch the hood to the big block/LT-1 style to clear the air cleaner? Or will the original hood close with the original air cleaner, a similar carb, and this taller intake?
Re: engine mod question - is this going to fit? (Jeff 6T9)
Without knowing the brand of intake or dimensions its hard to give solid advice but I believe that Clink69 got an Edel performer RPM to fit under his standard hood by using a drop base aircleaner. Might do a search on his posts.

thanks- I'll check it out.
it's a GM intake. I have the casting number somewhere. I looked it up on the internet and it was apparently used in '69 and '70 on Camaros, the '69 Z28 and a 370 hp 350 in 1970. My dad is doing some work on it for me right now. It's apparently been repaired near the thermostat housing, so he's cleaning it up.

If it is the same manifold used on the 360 hp in the 70 LT-1 camaro, it is the same as the 70 LT-1 vette intake. Given clearance I have with the drop base air cleaner, a BB/LT-1 hood will be needed. With that said, if the intent is to put on that manifold and carb, why not set it in place and try to close the hood. If it fits, bolt her down.
