Pinion Backlash
I'm Terence from the Netherlands and sorry if my English is not so well. I will do the best I can.
For hobby I'm doing some C3's over here and just started with rebuilding a differential of a C3 and yes it is my first time doing it. But I like to learn from.
For now I get stuck with adjusting my backlash of my pinion dept.
When I was using the 0.022 shim between the inner bearing and the pinion I get a backlash of 0,0236.
when I used te 0,030 shim it was 0,0196
when I used the 0,036 it was 0,0157.
(my measurements are calculated from mm to inch so it could be differ)
So it looks like the differences are almost equal every time I change it.
But when I calculate it that means I need a shims between 0,052 and 0,060 and there is my question:
Is this normal? because the original shim I take out of it that was 0,0275.

I'm not sure if the side shims are correct because the old thick shims does not fit anymore, so I tried with 1 old shim on the right side and 2 thinner new shims (what was in the rebuild kit) on the other side. I have read many articles about it and in the articles they said first you must adjust your backlash and then you must check the gear pattern. But with the last shim I checked the gear pattern with white grease on it, because I didn't want to open the little bag with yellow paint yet. But the gear pattern I saw was Toe contact and low flank contact. So I think I must increase my backlash and decrease side pinion shim. Is that right?
Would my backlash changes when I decrease the side pinion shim?
