Default Forward light and engine harness sealant

I've googled and searched and only found a couple of camaro forums talking about this. I'm redoing all the wiring and installed the dash harness. I wanted to install the forward light harness and engine harness but according to the AIM i need to apply GM 9980664 sealer to the firewall ahead of them. When I removed them there was a black rubber sealant that I scrapped off that basically looked like black RTV. I cant find this sealant or an equivalent. I know this has been done a thousand times so what did everyone else use to seal the harness at the firewall to keep out water? RTV silicone? I guess regular stuff not engine temp RTV? Or do I need something else? Thanks again for the help!!!

There is a sponge gasket on the fuse block side too. Some RTV sure couldn't hurt. Some of the GM sealers and other chemicals have long been discontinued. Shame too- they had some grease that looked like peanut butter that was the best thing ever for lubing the slide points on disc brakes and the adjusters on drum brakes.

Hi,
On my 71 I found some black material that seemed to have been applied while soft but set up fairly hard.
I used some black roofing cement.
Regards,
Alan

I have used the 3m Strip Caulk for this kind of thing. Seems to be the same consistency as the stuff I have scraped off.
