Default 1975 L48 air cleaner

My '75 is missing the ring on the air cleaner, that holds the seal. I have read that a pre '75 ring will not fit this. Would this be a 1975 part only?

I believe you are right, I know the 75 base is one year only because it has a larger inset to clear the HEI.

I believe there are differences in the rings but I also think the ring from the 73 or 74 will fit on the base of your 75. I have a 73 and it has the ring from a 75 fits and works just fine.

That's good to hear. I don't like lifting the hood and seeing it missing. I like things to look factory. I also need to replace the air filter, it's way to tall.

The 75 ring will fit on the 73-74 base but not the other way around. '75 is correct, the 75 ring is a one year only part. It has more slots in it. The 73-74 only has three slots. The rubber seal and the lids are exactly the same for all three years.
Here are a couple photos showing the 75 first then the 73-74 ring. They frequently show up here and on eBay..You need to replace the nut with a correct wing nut too!
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the pics, I guess I could just run a '73 - '74 air cleaner if I can't locate one.

The 73,74 base wont clear your 75 distributor. I went with an open air cleaner and have all the 75 stuff in the basement, but I haven't made the decision to let it go. I wonder if I may want to go back to factory some day, I like having that option.

I may have you confused. The 73 air cleaner base won't fit on the 75 because of the electronic ignition. There is a much larger indentation on the rear and bottom of the 75 base. Sorry '75 beat me to it. The photo I used above from the 75 is on eBay for sale right now. He has he entire assembly for $295.00 That original rubber seal is worth half that... It is in really excellent condition. You hardly ever see one that is not smooshed or badly deformed.
