Last time I changed my plug wires was about 12 years ago when I had the motor out. How big of a pain is it to change them all the chrome shielding. Car is a 70 with all the factory shielding. Does one piece bolt to the starter bolt?

On my 1970 they are in the shields and it is best to go at them from BELOW, so either on a lift or up on stands. The shielding is bolted to the block in one or two places on each side and one end is under a MOTOR MOUNT bolt on each side, so it isn't the most pleasant job. Very easy with motor on a stand out of the car. On the drivers side the #1 wire also threads through the motor mount between block and mount on that side. You would need an undressed wire, thread through and then terminate on the car. This is why a lot of owners go to an upper set of wires and looms.
Mine run under through the shields - it's a clean look and no wire to melt on headers.

You do not have to remove the boomerang to replace the wires.
Pull the #1 wire from the distributor and remove the boot.
Tie a string to the wire.
Remove the #1 wire at the plug and pull it out.
Remove the boot from the new wire and attach the string to it and pull it up.
Repeat with # 3, 2 and 4.
Thanks the boomerang was what I remember looking like a pain. I need to see on AC Delco wires I bought if wires I bought if the boot can be removed from the distributor side without damaging the wires
