I want to put a battery quick disconnect on my 81 Vette. Do I need to get one of those 9 volt Memory Bypass? I know it will save the memories in radio and clock but would anything else be affected if I didn't have one. I think I've read it's requirred for later C-4s and C-5. But don't know about the 81's ECMs. Part 2. If the answer is yes. What is the life of the 9 volt battery once the 12 volt is shut down? Thanks, Terry  :seeya
the life of the 9 volt would be short as it is only to be used to change out the cars battery not hold the stuff for a long time. if you get a battery disconnector make sure that it can be tightened enought so you have good contact while starting the engine because the starter pull 100s of amps. :chevy
The 9 volt battery type plugs into cigarette lighter. It's in the Mid America catalog. They have two different type. The other one is connected to the battery switch. Not sure how that works.
I put one in my 81 cuz there was a battery drain. Used the screw-in type. I have no clock (I wear a watch) and the radio - I don't know. Nothing seems to be adversely effected.

OK so you are talking about using 2 different things at the ame time. I would just get a cutoff switch with an in line fuse attatched to it.
I've got a $10 cutoff switch on my battery and use it all the time when I am not going to go cruising for more than a week or so. I don't care about the clock or memory on the stereo. If I'm not listening to the car, I have CD's on. That's it.
