I haven't seen a stamp like that, factory stamp would not be that large for serial number and would have different characters in it. Warranty engine would have CE in beginning. The 010 block was used late 69, check for casting date which is on the other side of the back of the engine.

why are you looking at the back of the engine as opposed to the engine stamp pad found on the front of the engine, passenger side, below the cylinder head?

Hi Mel,
I believe C69 wanted to show the block casting number.
The second photo…. isn't that the stamp pad?
Aren't we seeing the front surface of an unpainted head and just a bit of the water pump and pump to carb fuel line?
Regards,
Alan

Hi C69,
Is there an engine assembly stamp on the other end of the pad?
Can you remove the paint on the pad?
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan:
if the second photo is the front stamp pad, why the long number without any engine code? Thanks.

Hi Mel,
I think that's exactly why C69 is asking.
Regards,
Alan

K indicates the St. Catherines, Ontario engine plant. CM is a 60-61 283 code so I'm wondering whether the engine suffix is missing a character.

Hi C,
I don't know if it's a mystery or just stamps that folks aren't familiar with.
???

Alan

Not really. GM has a big complex at St. Catherines. The CM is the odd ball since a 283 code shouldn't be on an 010 block.
