Default one piece Pan gasket

Want to make sure I order the correct part from summitracing...
Have a 1977 L48....

Is this the thick lip or thin lip gasket at the timing cover?

Is there a way to tell without taking the pan off?

Assuming you have the correct dated pan and a stock timing cover it should be the thick one for a '77. There is some good info on grumpy performance site about this.

For people wanting to run one piece gaskets, I would recommend oil pan studs! Trust me on that one! Without them, it is one of those jobs requiring about 5 hands!

i had no problems installing a Felpro one, it came with temp studs to make the job easier.

I used the felpro one piece with the studs also on my 72. Made for an easy installation.

Well...
turns out I have the thin lip for the one piece gasket set...
Took the old one to pepboys, and compared the thick and thin one piece gasket--the thick was twice the size of my original piece.

Have the motor out of the car to freshen up the engine bay, so pan gasket is a piece of cake...motor is on a stand!)

Also think that this may not be the original motor, either (or was at least rebuilt at soe point.
There are no factory stampings in front of the passenger cylinder head (block was decked)?
Rods and caps are stamped with numbers (typical rebuilding practice.
Oil pump is an M55 (melling-not sure if GM used those originally)?
The pickup is also tack-welded in place--again, typical rebulider practice.
Two bolt main block (I thought all corvettes were 4 bolt main (even thought htis is an L48)?
Also, while replacing the rear main seal, I noted that the rear main in it was a fel-pro...not factory GM...

wish I knew the specs of this rebuild...assuming stock rebuild--still had all stock equipment, which is why I always assumed it was untouched prior...

Hi Keith, if you can get a measurement at the face of the pan you will know which gasket is needed??

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Here's a shot of the dimensions for the earlier to later SBC pans, should help some?
