Re: First year for one-piece dash? (hunt4cleanair)
Yes, as I recall, 78 was first year for one piece dash, and flat side gauges....separate dash top and round gauges for '77 and earlier...
frankly I like the early design better....for one thing that plastic center console wit those a/c controlls is a mess in the later one's....
not that the earlier one's with that plastic console piece are much better, but at least with a bit of work and talent, there is 1/2 a hope there....
that later plastic squared off design withthe rug sides is an assembly nitemare full of broken plastic mountings, props devised for holding the a/c swithc in place....and rugs are nearly impossible to get back in place....line up holes....mess.....
even my '72 with that ebrake console cover, with the p/window switches in it....the stock one was an abortion....I replaced it with one of the earliest heavy fibercast castings from a repro company found at a Carlyle show....
early castings had a few imperfections in them....not that it bothered me much....works fine, and doesn't break.....
