Default Changing points in distributor. Need help.

Guess it should read changing points in distributor.

First of all, I just moved a week ago to Virginia. About 25 minutes from Zips so obviously I had to go there this weekend and buy something so I got a new set of points, vacum advance, and condensor for my distributor. Once I get them in I have to set the dwell at 30-31. If anyone has any tips or can walk me through the process I would appreciate it.

I am also changing the springs, bushings ect for a better curve.

BTW, its nice to drive 25 minutes and get stuff and not have to wait for the mail. :D

First thing is remove the cap by depressing and turning two screws about a half turn. Lay the cap aside with all of the wires still plugged in. Remove the rotor with two srcews. Note that the bottom side has a square peg and a round one so when you put it back it will face the correct direction. Loosen the screw attaching the wires to the point set. Lossen but do not remove the two screws holding the points in and remove the points. Remove the scew holding the condensor and remove it. Install everything in reverse order. Start the engine and adjust the dwell by turning the allen screw through the little slide window. You need a dwell meter.. If not this will get you very close... Turn the screw slowly clockwise until the engine begins to miis and the back the screw out 3/4 of a turn.

Have you ever considered moving to a pointless conversion such as the Petronix II. I did this past summer and my performance in the high rpm's improved markedly. I also added an MSD6AL later in the summer, but that was not necessary I just got a great deal on it from a fellow forum member.

I have thought about changing to a MSD distributor but I'm going to try and change points and get a new curve and see how it is. I don't really have the money right now because I just swapped out the cam and changed a lot of stuff.

I do have a dwell meter but I just got it and am not sure where to hook up all the wires and how to check it. It has a ground and green wire. I'm pretty sure I can figure out the ground but not sure where the green wire connects too.

For dwell and tach readings connect the green wire to the negitive side of the coil and the black wire to a good engine ground.
