Spark plugs for 3946074 Winters aluminum heads
I'm looking to see if anyone is running 3946074 Winters aluminum heads with fuel injection and what spark plug and gap they are using? I have these set up on a 454 block, 11:1 compression, using fuel injection. Thanks for any insights.

stock type plug. Autolite plugs are fantastic. Cheap and no failures, Delco would be my next choice. Never need more than stock gap no need for MSD boxes either everyone sells cheap rev limiters if you need one nowadays.

I'd question why anybody'd want to try to use 40 + year old crummy aluminum heads. Have they been all done with steel serts around all the rocker studs? Is there evidence of welding any where? You can look up the stock valve seats diameter and measure yours. 30 + years ago we put in over sized seats to help them stay in the head. Big roller springs used to rip the studs out, cracked the castings, and pound the seats out
When after market aluminum heads came out they were so superior that you hardly ever saw the chevy performance heads
.045 is safe with modern ignitions

Several years ago I had a real bad experience coming home from Los Angeles one night. My 454" started missing on one cylinder and by the time I got home it was missing on four cylinders. The next morning I pulled the AC Delco R45XLS plugs out and found their (former) .045" gaps had enlarged to about .055" to .058" in just 15.000 miles and my HEI wasn't capable of firing them. So I switched to #5305 DENSO iridium plugs gapped to .035" and after 25,000 miles their gaps have only enlarged about .003"..........a HUGE difference as iridium is so tolerant of heat and erosion. If you shop around you can find them for as little as $6 each but as they'll last 100,000 miles the additional cost is well worth it.
