When I had an auto, I recall having to press the brake softly and hit the gas hard and all at once (not gradually). The car will move forward slightly, so be sure nothing is around you in case the car launches or spins sideways.
When I tried my first power brake I stood on the brake and slowly brought the RPMs up. Then I began to release the brake enough for the rear tires to break but not enough to begin moving. You have an engine similar to mine, same transmission, and a much better rear gear. (at least for burnouts)You're right, you should be able to power brake. If I can with a 3.08 you certainly should.
Only thing I can think is is that your intake and cam don't build power under your torque converter's stall speed. I'm no expert so this is could be a load of :bs but those items could be the significant difference between our cars. Either that or you just have really freakin' good brakes.
Usually around 60 to 100 dollars depending on which one. Easy install. Plumb it into the front brakes line off the master clyinder. Run a couple of wires and good to go
i had the same problem.. you know what it was? the holley carburator that i had on it.. i changed that over to a demon, and the tires wont stop spinning
I have a Hooley and it runs good. The Demon is a better carb but the Holley should run fine properly tuned. Yes you need a 12 volt source. I put my button in the ashtray for the line lock and used the wire from the lighter.
Re: ...I can't power brake...eek ('79ProwlerOrange)
I had a ricer friend come by today and he was talking smack..and I layed down a lot in the driveway. Me and my AutoShop teacher have been playing with the Holley....
One things for sure, you must have good rear brakes. I had air in my rear brakes and I could power brake real good. Then I bled them and it became very difficult to spin em. Line lock is the way to go.
Have you ever seen an onboard burnout system? Mount a windshield washer resevior with pump and run the hoses to a small hole directly above the rear tire. Rig it to a toggle or push button. Now you can wet your rear tires on demand. Works best if you can rig a nozzle that will spray an even band of your choice of fluid across the rear tires. Then, smoke em at will. :smash: :smash: :smash:
