hey guys, I am about ready to start putting the interior back together. I will hopefully have new pics in my signature by the end of the week. I know that this question has been asked before but I couldn't find anything in the archives. What is the best material to use for ionsulation under the carpeting. I have the silver backed bubble stuff from Home Depot on the the inside of the firewall. I don't believe that this will hold up in the foot well area though. If you put pressure on it you can feel and here the air pockets in the middle pop. What is the best stuff to use and where can I find it? The stuff that is sold through MAD, ZIP and others seems cheap in quality but high in price.
I JUST did mine yesterday and I used the thin stuff from Wilcox, it was like ~$100 and precut to fit. Although it seemed kind of flimsy I was very impressed with the reduction in heat.
I picked up some insulation from a roofing contractor that has worked great. It is about a 1/4" thick, comes in a roll, and is easily cut with a pair of scissors. Using the original rubber pads found under the carpets as a pattern, I cut the insulation and glued it down with spray adhesive. I covered every inch of the interior, including the entire transmission hump. I then scraped the rubber pads clean (removed remnants of old insulation) with a putty knife and glued them in place over the insualtion. The new carpets laid down beautifully over the insulation/rubber pads.
The decrease in interior heat is extremely noticeable, particularly on my right leg.

I would think that it could be picked up at any industrial roofing company.
I bought the stuff that's only 1/8th inch thick but it's supposedly good up to like 1600 degrees. Like I said, I was skeptical but after the installation I was very pleased. Also, I am running headers w/ dual exhasut so heat is a big concern. Overall their prices seem to be comparable to other vendors.
I'm planning a new AC system over the winter and that will include gutting and insulating the interior. I'm planning on using the following stuff: http://www.dynamat.com/
Here's a quote from their website FAQ:
Q: My floor board gets hot during long drives. Is there anything I can do?
A: Heat coming from a hot exhaust or headers is a common problem. Fortunately, Dynamic Control has a solution. First apply Dynamat Xtreme to the floor and firewall, then install Extremeliner, both underneath the floor's carpet. This process is outlined in .
also check out dynamat on e-bay and check out all the different brands they have. i just sent out an e-mail to 5 different people and asked them to send me some samples,,,,,,,,,ill put them side by side and take a couple pics and post them......
Thanks for all of the info guys. I'm hoping to have the insulation in this weekend then comes the carpet. Just need to loosen the wife's purse strings up a little more. :yesnod:
I used the stuff from Home Depot too. Had some pops putting it in, but I don't feel ANY heat while the car's on.
You should start it up while you have it stripped out just so you can feel how hot it REALLY is before you put the bubble wrap in. Then you'll know you did a good job.
