Default 1981 cruise control issue

It simply does not work. I have seen a few threads that say to check the fuse but I can not locate a fuse that says cruise control. I have attached a picture below that was posted in an older thread with an arrow pointing to a pink wire that someone said is part of the cruise control system, is this a fuse or a power wire? Any help would be appreciated!

Yes that wire is for the cruise control, it is plugged into the ignition terminal. I believe the cruise control is powered by the gauge fuse.

See if the vacuum diaphragm hold vacuum. If it doesn't the cruise control won't work.

The cruise control is the same for 1978-1979 as the 1980, the only difference is the resume wires.. so give this a try.

Also, here are the vacuum hose connections to check.

I have found that the vacuum switch that is mounted at the brake pedal was defective...thus not allowing vacuum to hold..and thus ...the cruise would not work because the system was thinking that you were pressing on the brake pedal to disengage the cruise.

Guys, thanks a lot for all the info, if I ever have a day where I am not working 17 hours, I am going to try to check some of these things out. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but I do not know a whole lot about vacuum systems, what they do and how they work. Looks like I have a lot more learning to do. Thanks again, and if there are any other suggestions, please dont hesitate to add.

I was looking at mine. It would speed up and get faster and faster. I replaced a lot of things. Brake switch, helped not a lot. hoses helped overall vac. Speedo bounced some replaced cables, then went into the transducer brain and replaced that and it was working amazing!
Anyhow that 37 year old piece of plastic on the diaphragm broke. Dang. I like my vet working. I am one of those that believe that everything on the car should work. Sigh..

I saw an 85 GMC 1500 in the salvage and it looked very close. I got to thinking if it is just a diaphragm and there are no wires to it (on the 81) what difference does it make as long as you can bracket it in. Has anyone found one that works? Has anyone tried this? has anyone found someone that sells the Vac Servo yet?

Vet Vet is getting close to being back to 99% :P

Thanks...
