My car vibrates when i accelerate hard, and over about 55 mph. A buddy said it could be the u-joints, and somebody else said it could be the old (7 years) tires on the car. any ideas?
Re: vibration under acceleration = u-joints? (Jeff 6T9)
Some sharks have pinion angle alignment problems.
The front U-Joint angles have to match the rear angles exactly.
If they don't the whole car will shake like a Harley.
I had to move the back of my tranny over 3/4inch towards the drivers side to make the vibration go away...Go figure.
Re: vibration under acceleration = u-joints? (Jeff 6T9)
I had a joint go bad, and the car vibrated pretty bad over 50. The other thing to feel for, is a clunk when you either apply throttle or let off quickly. A bad joint will make a clunking noise when torque is either applied or taken away.

Check the tires first. Could be their age or you could have thrown a weight and the wheels are out of balance. Mine shook the car to death at 50 mph until I had the wheels rebalanced. The other cause of vibration is often foreign objects picked up on the transmission shaft or the balance has fallen off the shaft. U-joints usually have a clunk upon acceleration and will squeal before they go completely. Don't be too quick to blame the U-joints until you have ruled out the cheaper fixes.
