Default Quiet yet good performing mufflers

All,

I bought a 1975 this spring and have been driving it and enjoying it a lot, with one exception - the previous owner put Flowmasters on it that are very loud right around 1000-1500 rpm. The car has a non-original fairly strong 350 so I expect it to be a little bit loud, but I put a very nice 383 in my 69 with stock mufflers and I like how quiet it is. I have owned corvettes continuously since I have been 23, now 48 and perhaps entering the grumpy old man stage of Corvette ownership.

So my question is, can anybody recommend a good performing yet quite muffler for my '75?

Thanks,

Scott

I have a set of Magnaflows on my car a '72 with headers and H pipe behind the trans....
It's really quiet and my car is a convertible....and believe it or not, I can see through the muffs....go figger.....

Can I hear them/engine...yes, is it loud enough to mess up music?? no...not even close....and I not talking some stupid loud sound system either....

Pypes RacePros are pretty quiet. I have them with their 3" X-pipe setup. I'm sure the X-pipe plays a small part in it as well.

To get a quiet high flowing muffler you need a large and long case. So look for the largest muffler you can physically fit. I went with Borla XL series (straight through) that I think are 18" long or so.

I found that the exhaust and muffler setups from Corvette Central are as close to stock as you can get in appearance and sound. They even have an option for the one piece muffler and exhaust pipe like stock for people wanting OEM looking systems. They are not expensive, fit really well, are good quality and easy to install. I have their complete systems on my 69 and my wife's 78 and am very happy with both. The 78 exhaust is 12 years old and still looks new with no rust or deterioration. You can buy any of the parts you need or the complete deal.

Dyno Max on my 71. 2.5". Not noise on acceleration but nice and quiet once you get up to speed.

I had flows and was too loud to listen to the radio. I went Magnaflow and the wife and I can talk on the freeway now.

good tip
nothing better than a fast car that is whisper quiet can have your fun and dont have to worry about the wrong guy waiting for you a block away

most short cased, straight through or chambered mufflers will drone and increase noise period

My pypes race pros are loud as hell. Louder then the flowmaster 40s on my camaro. Both cars have headers, no cats, and the exhaust is dumped before the rear axle, so that probably has a lot to do with it.

I bought them because I wanted something quieter than the Camaro, haha. Guess I really need a full exhaust.

Did you also get the pypes full exhaust kit? How does it fit?

My plan is to put stock '74 mufflers on my true duals. They are designed to sound stock without the use of a cat and they are still shaped like the originals were on my '80 so they will not look out of place.
