Dimmer switch on my "79"

The switch itself is mount near the firewall on the column. The turn signal lever, when pulled, actuated a lever arm that switches the switch. At least on tilt-tele columns...

Thank a lot for your quick feedback. I asked you this because the dashboard illumination is all the time off when the headlights are on. From your replies, I understand there is no specific switch for the dashboard illumination and there is likely a failure in the switch on the column. I would like to apologize my English; I am living in France and I am the proud owner of a Corvette 1979 since mid July this year.

We may have steered you wrong.
The "dimmer switch" switches between high and low beams.
Dash light level, inside the gauges, is a function of the headlight switch. Twisting the **** should change the brightness of these lights. Try turning it to the other stop. There is also a fuse just for that circuit.
Bon chance!

I have never tried to turn the **** of the headlight switch. I will do it during the week-end. If still not working, I will check the fuse. I really appreciate your answers. Thanks a lot for your help.

Bertrand 79:
Operation of the headlamp switch was standard for decades among all US-built vehicles:
Pull out to first stop: Parking lights "on"
Pull out to second stop: Headlamps "on"
With park or headlamps "on" turn to the left to increase brightness of dash lights
With or without park or headlamps "on" turn to the left past the "stop" to turn on the courtesy lamps.

ignition on,
then pull the switch out to at least get parking lights on first , then rotate one way will dim- to- bright the dash lights .
if you turn it the other way it will go to a click ,that should turn on the inside lights without having to open a door
