Default choke kickdown situation

I just rebuilt the carb on my '77 L82,4sp.....it has been sitting for many years but fired right up.
SITUATION: Fast idle has to be manually kicked down...I found that the hose from EFE was broken off from the tvx stalk when hooking up all mu vac. lines(going to repair tomorrow)...can that cause the fast idle (around 2.5kRPM)and no kickdown? Seems like it sounds kind of loud over on the passenger side underhood too, maybe jus me, dunno??

Thank you for any and all help!

Default Second thoughts...

If I did not get the choke coiled spring back in it's housing correctly could that be causing my problem....
is there a trick to making sure the coil's tang is properly seated in the little arm inside the choke housing?

After you get the coiled spring back in you should be able to feel if it's in correctly by manually opening and closing the choke butterfly with the throttle held open slightly. Also when you put the coiled spring back in you can actually see of it's going in correctly by using a good light to see what you're doing.

Try it by pushing the butterfly pin...it happened same thing to me and the pin -axle- was not properly seated all the way in.

Thanks corvetero...if you are talking about the throttle shafts in the baseplate....I never removed the shafts or butterflies.

Excuse my poor explanation.

I meant choke butterfly shaft on top of the carb, it might get stuck.

Not stuck....I can push on cam linkage and butterfly pops right open. But thanks!

When you rebuilt the carb did you remove the aluminum choke housing #43 on drawing? If so did you install the small white plastic vacuum tube for your hot air choke #51? Your high speed setting should be around 1300 M/T 1600 A/T. I run my 77 A/T around 1400 rpm on cold start.
