Default U-joint

Hi,

I'm replacing my M21 with a T5WC transmission in my 69 L46 convertible right now.
I have a small problem, I bought new u-joints from a dealer that would fit my car. The u-joint I got is 92mm i "diameter" but the u-joint in my car is 82mm.

I have an extra driveshaft, that is also 82mm.

What is going on??

Thx,
John

I just checked my 69 Coupe, it a factory TH400 car. (350/300 car)
The driveshaft is 60mm, and the u-joints are 92mm

But my L46 M21 car has a 50mm driveshaft, and 82mm u-joints, is that normal?

The 82mm are the 1310 u-joints and the 92mm are the 1330 u-joints.
And I do believe what you see is normal.

Ok thx

But strange that a L46 has a smaller driveshaft compared to a 350/300 car.

The torque converter in an automatic can actually multiply engine torque when it is slipping, and that multiplication can be significant (like 2 or more to 1). For this reason, the driveshaft in an automatic is actually a bigger diameter than the stick in the small blocks. The big block uses the same diameter as the automatics.
