Engine Hoist
Just wondering if anyone has experience with this Summit engine hoist.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-905218
I need one to pull a 4.7 engine from a Grand Cherokee, so it will come out the front.

Not sure where you are located but the cost of shipping something like a hoist really does not seem sensible.
Lots of auto parts stores and tool supply places nearby have similar quality that you can pick up. Even Harbor Freight has a decent one.
Mine I got locally at a Pep Boys and has same specs as the Summit one.
PLUS it has air assisted lift so I can use my 60gal air compressor to raise and lower stuff slowly and with very little effort.
Was less cost than the Summit one.
Pulled my vette body off and have done several engines on different types of vehicles with it.
Either way...good luck with your project.....

bought what looks to be the same one from Kragen yrs ago
Lifted the entire body (steel a body) off and on the frame a few times, big blocks etc no issues. Light, breaks down fast, worth it . Could never see the sense in buying some super heavy hoist that takes up a lot of space and gets rusted outside

Yes, I tried the rental way before! Never again. I think I would be better off with the HF. But since you mentioned it, I may stop by another farther away rental place to see if they have one worth the rental price.

2) I have the Harbor Freight lift. While I do not normally speak too highly of their quality control, this lift has served well for more than a dozen years, has pulled/installed countless engines including one on a single engine airplane. The only problem I have ever had was a broken caster wheel while loading a 2500# backhoe attachment onto a trailer on uneven ground (DUH!!!)

Hazard Fraught. I have a few including one with a pneumatic/hydraulic ram - it's the $hit!!!
Get the bigger one, you'll find a 20% off coupon in almost any magazine. Our local paper has one in every Sunday edition.
I added 10% pneumatic tires to one of mine to use in my stack lot. I can pick up and move almost anything! Going to ask Santa for some solid rubber tires for it so I don't have to waste so much time airing them up. This is as opposed to the 4" steel casters on the typical hoist and most engine stands. They may hold and lift 2000lbs but they won't roll across a friggin washer on a concrete floor!
