BTW, I wouldn't bother checking with the state. I can guarantee they'll say "no" - it's just a CYA measure on their part. If they said "yes" and it didn't work... well.. you get the idea. Worst case, take some AIR tubes and glue them on the headers..

Was thinking the same thing but maybe tack weld em!

Me too, but that would screw up the ceramic coating. I am waiting to hear from the state, about the AIR being routed to the converter and a few other things as well.

I found 2 headers that will fit a 1980 with AIR, angle plug heads and ceramic coating.
both are full length headers.
#1 is Hooker headers #0-2134-1. The 0- preceding adds the AIR, and the -1 after adds ceramic coating. The 0- and -1 add about $500 to the price.
$705.99 at Jegs and Summit.

#2 is a Hedman Header #68301-6. 68300 is a regular header for my car. 68301 adds the AIR pipes, and the -1 add ceramic coating. That runs the price up to $461.99

Dynomax makes no header for the AIR in a 1980, with ceramic coating.

I am going to look into replacement headers for the later C4's. They will have the AIR, D-shaped exhaust ports, and the EGR on the exhaust pipe will let me run a Holley carb / Fuel injection setup. Currently I can't run an EGR with a Holley, as the carb gets in the way of the valve on the intake. Besides, my heads don't even have a cross over for it, but the state still likes to see it there.

Unless I can find a better header in the C4 application, then I will go with the Hedman set up above.

By the way - anyone want some stock 1982 manifolds - I have a pair for sale.

Every hero must have a villain.

Mine is the Arizona Department of Environmental quality:
Mr. Seery,

You can install three way converters however the AIR Injection needs to be in the original position. It sounds like the fuel injection kit you are looking at is for off-road use only. If this is the case it is illegal to use it for an emission controlled motor vehicle unless it has undergone a Federal Emission test and the EPA has deemed it acceptable or CARB has issued an EO number to it.

Oh, and getting shorty or regular header, adding AIR and then getting them coated .......

Bryan,

It would run $179 to coat shorty headers inside & out with our Sterling
finish. If they are the standard length we charge $279 for the set. That
price includes all necessary cleaning as well, unless they are chrome or
nickel plated. We’ll need them here for about 5 days.

All parts receive a 3 year unlimited guarantee that covers chipping,
peeling, cracking, discoloration, rusting - anything. New parts also get a
lifetime rust through warranty as well.

Please ship your parts to(or drop off at):

Jet Hot Coatings
1840 West Drake Dr
Tempe AZ 85283

Just be sure to include your name and return info so we know who they belong
to and specify the finish of your choice. As for billing, you can either
include a credit card number with the parts or you can call one in to the
phone number listed below.

Thanks

Sigh ....... time to fork over $475 for the correct headers, and $500 for a dual cat. dual exhaust system.

I swear upon all that I hold near and dear (my wife and my Vette), if I go through this much crap and expense and don't pick up 1 full second in the 1/4 mile, there will be a 1980 Red C3 that will be available for down payment on a C5 or C6. I am giving it it's final warning!!!

$1000 in exhaust system :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad

Yeah -- did that ever suck. I wanted to get one, but couldn't swing it at the time. It wasn't "free" enough up front for me to get one, but in the end, I hate SUV's a lot more than my car.
