1977 fly wheel
Do i need to change the fly wheel when replacing clutch or just have a new surface placed on it? Is the base engine clutch difrent from the optional L-82 motor

go to PDF page 44 of this document for your answers. The L-48 uses a 10.4" clutch and the L-82 uses a 11" clutch.

On the flywheel if you run your finger or nail over it and it is rough, grooved or pitted, or not smooth or uneven or you see burning, hazing, or signs of usage like glazing, it would be good to have a machine shop surface it. They would check the thickness also, to make sure it will still be in spec.
