That`s great. That`s why I got such a good deal. It appears everything else is numbers matching. The intake is 3919849,and appears period correct. If the heads ,carb, intake, etc, are from a 68 ,would it produce semi adequate horse power? It runs ok , but not great. It had an edelbrok style rochester carb on it. Now I just put the original rochester on it,after I had it rebuilt. What should the timing be set at? Thanks for your help
not sure what you mean by semi-adequate, the original engine would have been high compression, the current engine would be low compression due to the pistons.
Sine we dont know which distributor is installed or what camshaft set it for 8 BTDC and listen for ping. The stock number on the original engine would have been 4 BTDC. The proper way to do it would be to recurve the distributor and set the total timing.
I believe that intake has exhaust gas running through a channel on the front edge, make sure you use the correct gasket and steel plate with that set up.
Code Year Model CID HP Trans Application
ALC 1977 Truck 427 220 540 L-43 AR, 60
ALC 1986 Truck 454 240 Mt LE-8 VIN W, 20, 30
T1203 is Tonawanda Dec 03.
77 427 truck is a tall deck. OP needs to pull a plug he can maybe shine a light in. See of he can get a look at piston top. Just cuz it is later model 454 block doesn't mean it has lopo truck internals. Better yet pull a head, get us head casting in the process and see if 3.76 or 4 inch stroke. This could be a 427 in a 454 block. OK, it is oval intake. Head casting numbers will tell a lot. They will most likely be correct 215 or 290 heads or peanuts. If peanuts, will definately still be 454 internals. And OP will definately be looking for correct heads and cam upgrade, though the smoggyest doggiest 454 will still drag a Vette around pretty well...

Since I switched back to the og rochester , this thing runs like a rocket. Still has the og distributor and coil. I did see some block #s...7.4 LG. It works great now. No reason to tear it apart, unless I have to. Thanks again
7.4 is 454 block, obviously. If you pull a valve cover, you will know what heads, and what Era the heads are, and you can get a good guesstimate of cam lift by measuring a couple of valves all the way up and down with a set of calipers. And you should be able to tell if dish, flat or domed Pistons looking in #1 plug hole.

that is still a standard deck, right? I would think a real truck block (10.2 deck height) would make things a leetle bit snug in a corvette engine compartment. and I have 6 77-up 454's. well, 5 and a 502. but 502's seem to be blasphemy around here, so i'll put that one in my Pantera. (boat)
