TransGo 400-1&2 setup
I'm in the process of getting a ground-up restoration done on my '75 and got a TransGo 400-1&2 to make the shifts snappier.
First, some specs as I'm sure they will be relevant:
Engine is a 383, HP: 437.5 @ 5600, Trq: 460.5 @ 4000
Roller cam .510”/.521” lift 231°/236° duration @.050”, 111° lobe
Trq converter is a TCI 240900 (~2400 stall maybe, dunno, that's what they told me)
Rear-end is 3.08
and Suspension is VB&P street and slalom
To be honest I'm not used to auto transmissions nor anyone around here has ever seen a TH400 or similar (Spain) and I'm looking for advice on what setup will fit me better. Unfortunately I haven't driven it much before starting the restoration so don't have any experience with the transmission but the car will be used in the street only; for fun, Sunday spirited driving.
My installation manual is very similar to this one and after doing some reading, my plan so far is:
- Don't mess with the Pressure regulator, leave as-is.
- Install the heavy duty snap ring and high rate return springs if possible.
- Skip the shift command option
- 2nd accumulator valve... no clue which springs to use. Advice?
- 2nd and 3rd feed hole, I'm unsure between ~0.118 and ~0.138. Won't drill the 3rd accm feed.
Does all this sound reasonable?
Also, can the springs for the accumulator valve be changed without taking out the pan / emptying the transmission? It might be something very stupid that I'm saying here but for what I picked from reading on the interwebz I got the impression that those springs are in the governor which can easily be removed and put back in.
Thanks for your help!
