Window regulator gear replacement

Window regulator gear replacement
I am now down to the doors on my resto-mod '76. I will be driving this puppy soon. I have a window regulator with a striped gear. Anybody tried the half moon shaped, bolt on gear repair? Looks easy enough, but I'm thinking the alignment might be off if it is bolted to the old one. Thanks in advance for replies.

If I recall Bairs has/had a video covering that very repair. I just replaced the LH motor but the gear was good. I may have to use the repair gear on the RH side though. I have one here, somewhere in my parts collection.

I won't install the imported regulators in my shop either and the reason is the rollers are the wrong size.
For me, the best bet is to hunker down and just get the USA made regulator. I have them on sale on our site for 140.00 each right now too... You do the job right one time, its over and you forget about it..

I used one of the bolt on repairs as a temporary, and to my surprise, it's still working fine 5 years later. Your mileage may vary! If you got the $140 to spend, then its one and done. I'm sometimes guilty of being cheap!

I put the bolt on gear on mine and it worked like a champ until I sold the car. I also took the opportunity to clean and lubricate all of the slides while I was in there. I was very careful when I drilled to have several clamps on the gear to ensure that it was straight with the other teeth, this to me was the critical part of the job.

On thing that is often times overlooked is how well the teeth on the window motor look...and how well they actually mesh with the teeth on the gear of the regulator.
I have gotten the USA made window regulators and still have to 'tweak it' a bit because the way the gear on the regulator meshes with the gear on the window motor and how perpendicular the gear on the regulator is in relation to the teeth on the motor gear.
