most of you know about the engine im building...
well...the kit will be here tomorrow so we're gettin real close to starting the rebuild...
the only (internal) thing that didnt come with the kit was push rods and i bought new ones today...
anyway...its time to think about plug wires...
i want better than OEM but i dont need too high performance, crazy stuff either...
i want a good quality street performance wire set for an affordable price...
The Taylor wires came highly recommended by a few forum members, I just wish I had of purchased the ones that were RF insulated, because I get that ignition buzz through my stereo now that I did have with my old wires.
I put the same MSD super conductors 8.5 on mine as well. I went with them because of the variable angle boots. My headers were eating my other wire boots for lunch. I tried everything, heat tape, heat boots, nothing worked. WIth the MSD's I was able to bend the boot to get about a quarter inch of clearance off the header. No problems yet (knock on wood.)
I used the Accel 300+ wires also. If you plan to use the stock wire routing (through the motor mounts) you will either need plugs that you put the boots on yourself, or you will need to raise the engine.
I've had good results with 8mm Moroso Blue Max. Custom cut and fit to my application. Not too expensive, and great radio reception. Heat shielded too for headers.....

MSD 8.5 Superconductors are the only ones that will last more than 2 months on my 93 Z. Every since I put them on I have had great luck, except when I get them to close to the header, but that's not the wires fault. I won't run anything else and the cost less from Summit than the Standard Ignition sets from places like carquest. They are also ussually cut to the right length if you go that route, rather than makeing your own set. Even if you do make your own set they are supplied with the MSD crimper which is very nice bonus when making wires. The Super conductors have 50 ohms per foot, and do quite well in the radio noise suppression area due to their construction.
Wire I have had trouble with include the Taylor 8mm (300 ohm/ft), Standard Ignition (1000 ohm/ft), Accels (I could shake them the wrong way and get rid of the miss, tell me those are good, just try) (300 to 500 ohm/ft and sometimes infinite, that's really bad), Ford Motorsport, and a few others I can't remember right now.
The speed shot back home has a MSD wire compare display, with an ohm meter, The moroso's had the highest resistance the rest were all above 100 and the only ones below 100 were the MSD wire.
Great post, I will be replacing my wires next spring as the Taylor that I got are terrible for radio/cd play and they just keep getting worse as I put the miles on them. Not too bad when new but since I have put over 4000 miles on them the noise is unbearable I have the 8.0 which are for headers, I imagine that they have better ones with NF suppression that these don't have.
