Default fuel filter for rochester carb

Hi friends, Does anyone know what type of filter for a Rochester carburetor? Mine is missing. Thanks!

Hi Claudio,
Rochester quadra-jet carburetors have a fuel filter IN the carburetor at the fuel line connection.
It's a sintered metallic barrel type filter.
Regards,
Alan

You can see the end of the word FILTER on it's housing in this photo.

Your carb will probably have the short type internal filter. You can go to any parts store and cross this number Wix 33051. If it happens to be the longer internal filter that would be Wix number 33052.
Best, Greg

since the OP lives in Europe the WIX numbers may not help

The AC Delco number for the short filter is GF427
The AC Delco number for the long filter is GF471

Another thing I learned this year: remove the little check valve ball from the filter if it has it. It is supposed to prevent drain back from the carb so you don't have to crank it as much to start it if it sat for a bit. However for me (and quite a few others judging by what I found on this forum) it inhibits fuel flow if you tend to "hotrod" around a bit. As in at high RPM the carb bowl wasn't filling fast enough due to the little check ball. Removed it and problem solved.

Slightly off topic, but are those filters (the bronze and the paper units) the same ones that fit in Holley carbs?

Thanks.

i removed my carb filter and ran a inline filter down by the tank.

the spring didn't move/spin when installed, binding up, resulting in the twisted shape.
new engine wouldn't rev over 4200rpm on dyno, Lars suggested remove the filter, and this is what we found. ran perfect afterwards.

sorry for large photo, only photo i had on phone.

i have rebuilt hundreds of Q jet and the only time i have seen this was when the filter was installed backwards even if those little wings on the solid end should prevent this. these wings prevent the that end from going all the way into the filter nut and the filter gets compressed because of this. try it yourself and see the filter will not go all the way into the filter nut

Claudio welcome to the Corvette Forum. Like many of us, I think you will soon find it a terrific resource and at times the most valuable tool in your tool box.

Here's a quick video that goes thought the process of changing a filter in the Quadrajet (in case you've never doe this before or it has been a while). He even uses a terrific tool that seems just for the job, the special 1" wrench used for holding and then removing & reinstalling the filter housing. It is critical that you hold the filter housing with a 1" wrench whenever removing or reinstalling the fuel line. Also be gentle, but firm when tightening the filter housing into the carburetor. It is not hard to strip the threads from the carburetor body if you get carried away.

Good luck... GUSTO

Or, regulations of your country permitting, you could install an inline filter which has less restriction to flow and greater filtering capability.
