I am in the process of writing a manuscript and am looking to buy information, magazine articles, or photographs about the devlopment of the ZL1 motor, especially those with quotes from Duntov, Gibb, or Harrel. Please email and let me know what you have.
....from the article..... "...after they mounted the engine on the dynomometer and turned it on, it was so powerful it popped right off the dynomometer onto the floor with such force that it cracked."
Gee Chuck, and I started all this because of you. Here's a quote from that first [REPRINT]....
I've really enjoyed Chuck Harmon's postings of some great Corvette reprints lately. So much so that he's got me off my butt and looking through my own collection.
I don't know about you Chuck, but I don't think it would hurt some of the younger guys to read LOTS more about our collective Corvette heritage! (especially the big-blocks). And, maybe a few of us older guys will appreciate the memories.
So without further delay.....allow me to present: "Wayne Walker's Classic ZL-1"
Those of you who may be curious about the rest of the series, simply click on SEARCH (top right on forum pages) and "search for" [REPRINT], while changing the DATA SET to Archived Topics from Recent Topics.
If there are any reprints that you simply must see, I'll endeavour to get the .JPGs up again "for a while" - throughput is now hovering around 2.5Gb per month.   ......but who's complaining. :blueangel:
I am amazed at how close Jay's L88 and this ZL1 were on a dyno. Jay's L88's 539 actual hp at the flywheel and Walkers 523 with the ZL1 are virtually the 15hp spread I have regularly heard would be the difference between the two. I actually posted this expectation a day or so ago in another thread titled "hp". Both Jay's and Walker's engines have the same cam.
My L88 was also within just a few hp of Jay's on the same Chassis dyno. In other words, these are not freak results or difficult numbers to reproduce with other engines built with the same parts and to factory specs. You can see this on my chassis dyno graph on my website under the L88 section.
67HEAVEN- Thanks for the complement. I also check out your web page. I’m very envious. Good job on the restore. I would love to someday own a ’67. I have a good buddy (Cmacvette) who is currently doing a major restore on his ’67. I recently discovered that the ’67 floor pan is closer to the C3’s than then pre’67 C2’s.
