Default Headlight switch question

Headlights wont come up suddenly months after new switch installed to fix same problem. Now here is were I need help since my memory is lacking abit. Does the switch have two positions?Partly out turns on marker/tail and all the way out pops up the headlights?Because the new switch only pulls out so far and I'm thinking I'm having the same problem again w/the switch not fully pulling out,bad switch or am I loosing my mind?Everything else is new also 1976

Probably bad switch. When I bought my 68 the **** was very tight when pulling out that the **** would pull right out. I though the latching mechanism was worn so I bought a new switch and ****. New one was tight too for a couple months and suddenly it was loose and the headlights would come on but not pop up. So for a couple of years i used the vacuum valve under the dash to open and close them. I think they are being cheaply made. I still have that second switch and went to electric headlight doors.

Hi gj,
There should be 2 distinct 'detent's in the switch.
The first for the parking lights.
Then when the **** is pulled all the way out the result should be that the lights come on and the warning lamp on the dash should illuminate even when the head light doors are shut.... BUT the doors should begin to open simultaneously.
The head light warning switch on the dash should shut off as soon as the doors are fully open.
People do complain about the quality of replacement switches.
Regards,
Alan

Willcox tests his switches before selling them. Contact his company. Either that or buy an old stock original from a corvette recycler. That's what I did after getting a new one and having to throw it directly into the garbage bin. Don't get me started on new Chinese crap parts. What really sucks is the Chinese CAN produce good quality parts if the middleman pays a little more for it. Ohhh crap... to late... here I go again...better stop while I'm still ahead

Pull the over-ride switch down on the lower dash pad.. see if the lights pop up. If they work fine with the over-ride then go to the main switch. If they don't work with the over-ride the issue is somewhere else.

It's possible that maybe one of the hose's came loose from the vacuum pod on the bottom of the switch, but unlikely. Pull the screws out of the top and the side and take a peek inside and see before you go any further.
