I just read this article on the new line up of GM engines. http://www.detnews.com/2002/autosins...b02-608586.htm
They will be installing a 3.6 liter V6 with 255hp in the future in the Corvette.

There are quite a few very good performing six-cylinders out there.
GM needs to make one of em. (Actually, the inline six in the trailblazer kicks some serious butt. They just need to get a motor like that for a car, now.)
I don't know how you'd infer the Corvette being downsized, especially when you consider they call the LS1/6 a motor that people recognize, and on top of it, GM is developing even larger/more complex motors.
DOD is a more than likely a possiblity for the vette. 6 cylinders are not.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :mad :mad ,,,,the mustang guys would love for Gm to put a v-6 in the vette,,,,,it will happen(someday), i have always been a chevy guy, if that happened i would lose my faith in gm! :(

Oh, WOW...that really sounds high-tech when you consider Subaru is already getting 260 + HP out of their Turbo 4cyl.s in Europe and Japan right now. Our American low HP version is the current Subaru Impreza WRX...next year we're supposed to get the same as Europe and Japan. And GM can only achieve 255 HP in the V-6??? :U

220 ci makine 255 hp, ain't so shabby, and no turbos/boost either, apparently...none mentioned....
how does that compare to a 4 cyl of unknown displacement making 250 hp?? much better, far superior, I"d say....turbo's a typically peaky in HP numbers, and need winding up to over 4000 rpm's to make that power...our V6 here meanwhile should have a nice broad torque curve...

If these idiot engineers at GM screw with the Vette ( they already killed the other sports car Camaro, Firebird ) I will go out and buy a Mustang. Do you think Chrysler is thinking about putting a V6 in the Viper ?

Come on guys, are you really getting upset at this line? It aint happenin' - in fact the article says the engine will be going into the new Malibu.........Do you really believe that GM will put what will be identified as the malibu engine in the vette - Bwahahahahahahah - I think not.
Move on - there is no indication in that article that the vette will have anything other than the engine it has now. Pure fabrication on the posters part.

I don't think it will happen... after all the Vette is the longest running two seater sports car in American automobile history, you don't just *** with an American icon like that. Tha'd be like substituting crab apples for Granny Smith apples in apple pie. :U
I can see it now, American icons in 2020 -- the V6 Vette, Crab Apple Pie and T-Ball :nonod:
