Any conversion will cost you at lest $500 to just do the conversion,,
You can make a gen1 kick ***... my gen1 is over 650hp
I would have "full roller" as my #1 need... more hp and longer engine life are just a few reasons...
a 383 is a nice number:-) and easy to do with your block... can not afford AFR heads? go Dart, Edelbrock, or Sportsman iron.. all good heads... not AFR, but good...better than China crap...
would not do a big block.. to much weight...

Bought a 396 from Blueprint, dynoed at 515hp at 6000 but the curve points upwards so maybe 550 at 6500
5500 for the longblock, I had a performer rpm intake and bought a new carb so around 6000 for 550horses

that atk is more value than the blueprint. Has roller cam, Dart heads, intake dist. Good bang for the buck
Getting 500 out of a 383 wont happen with a mild cam;if I was you dont be concerned with a number..most "500" hp engines arent anywhere near that.
if ysing your 350/290 put a set of afrs on there a roller cam, swap meet intake, decent HEI. You should be able to eek low-mid 400s with enough torque to roast tires. pm tpi421vette for a stellar deal on a set of afrs
A 6.0 with a procharger will cost huge money to do

ATK 383 short block and an Edelbrock top end kit with the roller cam should get you close. I had that setup in my 80. Probably be around the 5k mark.

Not my engine:-) 650hp 525+RWHP Dyno Verified... 427 naturally aspirated..
Yep, I agree,,, to a point, But, if you stipulate all your parts and requirements and specs, and pick one of the good one, yes there are a couple,, You can get a kitchen engine..
Cheap, Fast, Reliable... pick 2.. Thats all you get:-)
I have well over $13,000 in my engine,, easy to do

How important are the numbers, or do you just want a fun car? Take a portion of your budget and do the manual swap first. You will have more with a manual and the engine you have for 2/3 of you engine budget.
