I ordered the D350 headers from Dougs, I really want a simple install and fit without all the drama. I'm looking at the Hooker 16521 HKR header back exhaust. Anyone tried these two together ? Anyone have a recommendation for a header back exhaust for a 74 with a smallblock that will fit Dougs ? Should have the new motor installed within a week or two if I can get a couple days off

I put Doug Thorely headers on my '74 and connected them to a stock BB 2&1/2" exhaust system. No they didn't line up. I just measured the offset from the collector to the stock pipe. You can measure center to center or use the same side of pipe to find the offset distance. Each side (driver's side and passenger side) had different offset. Took that info to local Midas and had them bend and weld up a dog leg for each side. Less than 30 bucks I think but I do remember it was very reasonable. If not take it to another muffler shop - no end to muffler shops.
Yeah, I think I will do the uncorked header drive to the muffler shop, its only 2 miles away and the do custom work so I'll just drop it off and let them do their magic. Plus, isn't it a right of passage to drive your Corvette uncorked to the muffler shop

Myself I don't let any shop drive my car. I won't rant some of the bad experiences I've had but don't hand them the keys unless your sitting in the car also or they will be down the block and around the corner as soon as you turn your back. Yes even the Mom & Pop shops.
Since you never mentioned what exhaust system you currently have (2", 2 1/2" or custom) you might want to check out this thread for some additional thoughts regarding adding headers to your Corvette.
I am running Doug's on my 1970 coupe, on a 355. I love the headers and the fit. That said, you will likely find that the collectors aim right at the inside corners where the floor pan and firewall meet when you install the engine. A pre-packaged exhaust can be hooked up, but ANY exhaust system will require that someone fabricate "S" pipes from the collector flange to the adjoining pipes. I bought a couple of 45 degree elbows for each side and made some temporary pipes to aim away from the floor pans to get to the shop.
The nice part of the headers is excellent plug boot clearance, excellent clearance around clutch components (4-spd in my case), and the collector location means that the flanges are tucked nicely up under the car, so no clearance issues or low hanging pipes. I simply took it to a shop and had an entire 2-1/2" system bent and welded from the headers back to the tail pipes. I had them add a 1-1/2" H-Pipe behind the transmission (eliminates some drone as I am running Flowmaster 40's). I love the system... just be aware that you may need to cut and re-weld if you have any major rear end work left to do, or want to pull your driveshaft (in the case of the H-pipe). Great headers, though.

Unfortunately it wont be driven to the muffler shop I forgot I have Sniper EFI so I'm going to need the 02 sensor installed and the system has to LEARN at normal operating temp so looks like a tow there and back
