Default Porting intakes, manual steering conversion

Hi guys!

Got a 1979 C3 vette with a goodwrench replacement engine.
Engine numbers: 1M1118 5VP
10066036
Could it be made in 2005? Was installed in 2005 by performance Chevrolet in NY city. Anyone knows if they still exist? Would love to have a service history of the car. I think it hadnt run since 2005, its exported to Belgium now, so cant use the vin to check american databases afaik. I've been looking all over the internet to see when/how long these 66036's were cast but couldn't find it.

Anyway, second question, on the performance alloy inkets the base where the carb sits is 2 "kidney" shapes of you know what I mean. On a stock iron inlet this are 4 holes . Would it be good to reshape these to the same shape as the alloy performance manifolds? Would buy a new edelbrock 2101 orso, but shipping is a pain lately.

And last question, I'd like to convert to manual steering on this 79 vette. As again, getting parts is a pain. I've seen that you need the manual pitman arm, and a manual centerlink. Although I've read a few times that the PS valve/centerlink can be converted/used on a manual setup. Anyone got any pointers?
I've read it a few times, and someone linked a URL to a 'how to' page, but the link was dead.

Many thanks as always!

I did the mod you are speaking of back in the day to a BBC cast iron intake, you will need a good cutting stone and a can of rapid tap cutting fluid to help you along. Its a long process. I never did get a chance to run that intake but if its all you have, give it a try.

Why would you want to remove the power assist on your vette. The car has a manual steering gear box with a power assist ram .

Because the factory power steering is not worthy of a sports car....I agree with the OP decision to go manual.....and then you have a car the drives like a sports car should, as opposed to a 75 Cadillac. Its harder to steer in parking lot, but so what.

@redvet, if you want to ship to belgium let me know

Yeah, I don't really like the feel of the powersteering. Mind, I'm used to driving FWD racers with an LSD and no power steering. It would also help to declutter the engine bay ( and lose a marginal bit of weight probably too).

I hope someone on here already tried the intake manifold mod On a standard goodwrench crate it might not be worth it though? I have no idea about how good these stock intakes flow. Always heard the exhaust is quite a restriction on them.

Does anyone know if GM still used the plastic timing gears for my engine?

Yes I had a Targetmaster 1979 350 and it still had the plastic timing gear. It was an otherwise very good driver engine, usa made back then.

I'll guess YES!
You can call GM performance and find out for sure.
