i have a 77. The oil pressure gauge always says its maxed out. I assume this is from the oil pressure sensor. I’m thinking I have a mechanical gauge plugged into what i believe is a electrical sensor. I bought a mechanical sensor gauge but the thread was different and wouldn’t screw in. There are two spots where it can screw in correct? One by the distributor and one by the oil filter? I’m not too knowledgeable on mechanics, but trying to figure it out. Any help is appreciated.

It's not possible to plug a mechanical gauge into an electrical sensor: The electrical sensor will have a wire or electrical spade terminal on it, whereas a mechanical gauge has a 1/8" male pipe thread on it.
You are correct on the 2 locations for tapping into oil pressure in the block. Both holes are 1/8" pipe threads. If you have a mechanical test gauge, most of them are also 1/8" pipe, but if you have something different you can buy pipe thread adapters at any NAPA store to adapt your test gauge to the 1/8" pipe threads in the block.

If I understand correctly, you think your sender is currently a 'switch', which would normally be connected to a 'light', not a 'gauge' - and you attempted to buy the sender for a 'gauge', but the threads did not match?
I looked at the senders available at O'Reilly, and they all look like 1/8" threads (gauge senders and light senders) - are you sure that your new sender is correct? Maybe post a picture of your current and new senders?
