Default 68 paint problems

On the front of my 68 It has some paint blisters so I thought I would have the car painted this spring. But after having a close look at the blistering I noticed that they were in a straight uniform row above the headlights and also close to the hood. Its almost like rivets or something coming up through the fiberglass causing the paint to rise. Anyone else have this problem and how did you fix it :chevy

It is actually a common problem.

The headlights are metal. The rivets are holding the metal and fiberglass together across the front of your hood.

There have been several opinions why these rivets push up thru the paint. Could be rough roads over years of driving, or the rivets getting old and oxidizing.

They used aluminum rivets to attach the header bar to the underside of the front surround. There is a galvanic reaction between the steel support and the aluminum rivet which causes the rivet to oxidize over time. Then you get the dimples as you've seen.

You can drill out the fiberglass area and remove the remains of the rivet. If you don't care about NCRS correctness, you can use a bonding adhesive to hold the header bar and surround together, and just fill in the holes with glass and resin then repaint.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go with the bonding adhesive. I hate to see a new 6 or 7 thousand $ pant job get ruined by leaving the rivets in just to have the same problem down the road.
Thanks again
