Working on my 73 blower motor and tracked it down to a bad ground. Now it runs all the time on low speed. the speed changes when you move the switch but does not turn off completely. Is this normal for a 73?

My 73 was doing this and it is not normal. Down under the console plate beside the heater controls there are 2 micro switches. The master and a/c. I found the master microswitch would not release so replaced for $12 and off went the blower
Mine has a/c so probably different

My 73 is non-AC and astro-vented and the fan shuts off when the switch is off. Now maybe its not functioning right as it only works on high speed when it's on.
When the HVAC system is ON, the blower will always blow on LOW speed (unless switched to a higher speed). When the HVAC system is turned to OFF, the blower will not run.

Refer to the picture of the console from my stock 73 with A/C. From page 31 of the owner's manual:
"Selector Control- The left thumb wheel (bottom one in my picture) operates the compressor, controls air source and operates the blower at low speed (except OFF) in all modes. When the control is in the OFF position, the system is totally inoperative."
Similar wording is also shown on page 30 describing the operation of the heater and defroster system in a non A/C car.
An owner's manual is a great book to add to your corvette library.
