I understand the drawing but the problem is, it appears every car is different when it pertains to mounting the molding and how much, if any need to be cut, so basically it's a trial and error kind of thing anyways. Glad you got yours mounted.

I'm with you that drawing makes no real sense. Not to mention where is figure B.

I didn't even bother looking at those direction when I got mine, if there even were any. Just modified as necessary made my own mounting bolts and bolted it up.

Part of the problem was that for my 69, according to the instructions, I did not need to have elongated the slots on the frame. Apparently I have a 68 frame where the slots need to be elongated. Come to find out my 69 was built in October of 68! (Still dont's have any idea what that drawing is trying to tell me!)

I just use the rear mounting to frame and I cut off the ones up stream toward the collectors, so that eliminates the need to trim the rocker at that location.

the drawing is telling you that the black side molding has to be shaped in the front to clear the 4 pipes going to the collector. In the middle and the rear it is telling you the molding has to be shaped in order to clear the bracket that is welded to the side pipe and mounts on the frame. As my wife tells me, I am half a rocket scientist, only 2 years of college aeronautical engineering.

WOW. I thought the drawing was telling something about the pipes and the frame! I feel real dumb now.

I guess I assumed that you knew the instructions were for the molding.

I've put on more than a dozen sets of those in years gone by. Some cars you need to trim the molding and some I never needed too. I'd pull off the back tire and try slipping it in from the rear. You may get lucky and have it go right in. Mine aren't trimmed at all.

Worse part of all - The drawing posted we are all looking at is Figure A intended for a C2 Vette. The Figure B is the drawing for a C3 that is shown on page 2 of the instructions.

I only needed to trim the left side at the collector only.

Now that they are on. Thank you all very much for the help. The muffler rattles inside the sidepipe at idle rpm. The mounting slots are longer than needed.and the side pipe is driven over the collector. See picture

Do I have to expand the flanges on the muffler to stop the rattles?

there are many different types of inserts, so without knowing which one you picked, it should be a tight fit.

Yes - As MelWff said, it should be a snug slip fit - but the last set of Hooker inserts I bought for my side pipes did the same thing. I had to expand the flanges a little at a time until I got the insert to fit.
