1980 4 speed removal: Need procedure
#2
Drifting
I have an 80 buts it's been a while:
On the 80 the exhaust runs under the crossmember so easier to remove.
*Remove exhaust
*Use a 12 point 1/4 inch socket and extensions to undo all ujoint starp bolts on trans and diff. To to the diff I go parallel to the drive shaft and over diff front cross member. I use 1/4 drive for more room.
*jack stand under rear of trans
* back off Parking brake adjustment on cable and remove bolt from cable pully
*remove cross member
*remove shifter handle/arm
*disconnect speedo and backup light plug
*Try to remove trans yoke and remove drive shaft if room. If cannot remove drive shaft leave and just remove yoke
*Jack under trans and remove the 4 bolts from bell housing

Melting Slicks
Perfect time for a manual...
One note be prepared for weight and when comes out of bellhousing it'll get away from you. It's hard to get them up high enough to slip a trans on a jack out/in.
When reinstall it get 2 replacement bolts and cut heads off. Making studs to align trans on while you Start other 2 bolts then Swap studs for bolts.
Don't forget drain fluid out 1st...

2 align studs. Take a cutoff wheel and cut a screwdriver slot in the top of the stud. Probably won't need it, but if they're kind of tight to get out it'll make life a little bit easier.
